Stuart this is a great idea. You can abandon any hope of any microsoft product being optimized for any non-microsoft controlled component away. But that does not mean that a 3Dfx-Plus! pack cannot happen. Plus is not an API and does not require much programming. The brilliant point in your post (IMHO) was that 3Dfx should distribute/promote pieces of code which are both eye-catching and visible most (all?) of the time (these are the only criterias; the app does not have to be 'useful'). A psuedo Plus! pack or fancy screen savers fit the bill just fine. For all that matters, 3Dfx can write these apps in Direct3D instead of glide, they just need to make sure that the app will not run on any machine that does not have a Voodoo based graphics card. The whole point being that there are many people who do a lot more with their computers than play Quake and having such applications will give them a chance to take advantage of their Voodoo card while they are not playing. More importantly, from the company and share holders point of view, it provides an advertisement for 3Dfx whenever someone other than the owner looks at the computer screen. I think you should polish your suggestion a little bit and discuss it with 3Dfx.

Oh, and one last thing. Ignore those who compensate for their lack of imagination by showing their poor manners.

Sun Tzu
