IBM was June's Number 2 PC seller - assembly adds CPU etc locally

June's sales soar: " IBM (NYSE:IBM) was No. 2. Hewlett-Packard (NYSE:HWP), which had been No.1 in May, slipped to No.3 while Packard Bell-NEC finished out the field. "

dailynews.yahoo.com

To keep IBM PCs priced competitively , IBM is having its resellers add the CPU and memory locally:

" NEW YORK--IBM said yesterday that distributors have begun assembling all key components of its commercial personal computers, a major shift aimed at slashing the buildup of excess inventory by IBM.

The new system is meant to avert a replay of the glut of unsold corporate PCs that clogged the market earlier this year at IBM and other PC makers, setting off a price war that has strangled IBM's overall corporate earnings growth this year.

...and IBM Microelectronic's PowerPCs beats Intel's CPUs ! Wonder if IBM's future assembly will entail CPU options .
