Brokopondo and the Guayana Shield

The more I research the Guayana Shield, the more interested I am in the Brokopondo and the Lawa permits. There are several characteristics that are consistent within this gold belt. I will post additional information on the Guayana Shield (maps etc.) at a later date.

The important points on Brokopondo are:

1) Magnitude of find. The anomalous trend extends for over 20 KM, and the strongest anomaly is itself large enough for a very major gold deposit. This trend has the potential for other deposits as well.

2) Because the anomalies occur at the height of land between the Brokopondo drainage system and the Sipalwini drainage system to the east, the gold in the sediments cannot have come from elsewhere. The bedrock within the anomalous area must be providing the source.

3 The mafic volcanics and relate felsic intrusions are classic host rocks for many gold mines in greenstone belts such as Yellowknife, Kirkland, Redlake and elsewhere in the world.

4) The vein sampled in 1997 is just one of several direct indications of gold in bedrock on the Brokopondo permits. The occurences are being mapped in conjunction with the sediment sampling.

5) The Brokopondo permits are easily accessible. A good road exists from Paramaribo to Brokopondo Lake near its outlet. The permits are on the east shore of the lake providing boat access.

There is a significant amount of work to be done on this project to catch up to the Lawa permits. It may prove to be much larger in the end.
