More news about Novartis from San Diego newspaper: Novartis is committing $600 million to build and operate a lab in San Diego specializing in plant genetics. It will focus on agricultural research and development in crop protection and seeds. (In April, Novartis said it would spend $250 million to build a center focused on human genetics in San Diego. This facility and the plant genetics facility will be next door to each other.)
