'In countries notably lagging in Y2K compliance
efforts, the council's work might make a real
difference. In a recent news conference, Gartner
Group's Andy Kyte pointed to potential problems in
Germany and Japan. "In these two highly
sophisticated countries, with very heavy dependency
on information technology and very short supply
chains, there is a danger the Year 2000 problem isn't
being treated sufficiently," said Kyte, Y2K research
director at Gartner.
