<The brokerage has to have shares for a shorter to borrow them. If you buy shares through those brokerages, and hold them in a brokerage account (as opposed to ordering the stock certificates), the brokerage can lend them to shorters.> Actually they have to be held in a margin account to be lent by the broker. And I believe your broker can track down shares to be shorted from other brokerages even if they don't have any available. Dave
