Hi E'Lane. After three days on the Bay on a sailboat, I'm ready for a vacation! It was cut throat competition, yelling and screaming, getting splashed, frantic pulling at lines and outflanking your opposition, and this was not even about the race, it was about the water cannon fights before the racing started.
It was great fun, but the weather wasn't the greatest. We usually get in 3 races per day, but managed only 4. Only the second race was in any kind of wind at all, around 15 knots, but the rest were run under 10. The wind kept dying, and the heat index was hovering around 100. Put a couple of hundred sailors on about 50 boats bobbing around in the heat waiting for wind and you've got the biggest floating party ever, in the middle of the Chesapeake.
The shore parties every night made up a bit for the lack of wind, with free chow, live bands, and lots and lots of beer. As far as the racing, we took one first and three seconds among our local club racers. And the one victory was over the fastest and fanciest boat, so we got bragging rights at the Washington marina bar that should last us for the rest of the summer. Or until the next race, anyway :-)
Glad to see y'all have kept the spirit of fun and friendship alive in our little dgiv-ship! |
