DenverTechie,
Since you work for a telecommunications company, it would be very interesting to hear what your personal opinion of the AT&T purchase of TCI to solve the "last mile" problem via a two-way Hybrid Fiber Coaxial network. The cable plant upgrades to 2-way HFC seem to be happening a lot faster than xDSL rollouts (IMHO).

Plus, as we previously discussed, xDSL does not seem to be able to compete with HFC in terms of pricing their service for the consumer. As you mentioned before, ADSL equipment is more expensive than cable modem hardware.

In a related topic, GTE built a brand new, two-way HFC network here in my area. Literally from scratch! If I recall correctly, GTE was one of the first companies to get involved in xDSL technology. I believe they had some tests going in Texas about five years ago.

So GTE works on this technology for 4 years, then come in and build a two-way HFC network from scratch. So I'm thinking, hmmm...those xDSL trials must not be going the way GTE planned or why would they do this massive HFC experiment in Florida and California AFTER working on xDSL for four straight years?

Any comments/opinions/contrary views you have would be greatly appreciated.
MikeM(From Florida)
