I'll just take a moment to correct SierraPuma's misinformation:

Amazon's 10K said: AMZN: spent ~$39m in '97 on all Marketing to generate 149M in sales. Using the same math for GMGC to hit 400M would they would need to spend $110M+

I say, close: They spent $14M to add 42,000 customers. That means Ameritrade spent $311 in marketing for each customer they added. E*Trade is about the same. To add 400K customers using their formula means GMGC would need to spend $125M.

AOL and INTC are hardly comparisons.
