If they were given a 'free' hand, your wallet would be substantially lighter! The expansion in the telecommunications industry is incredible! I do 'contract installation', and there aren't enough installers to install the equipment! We used to install telephone service in 3 days from a 'cold' contact (initial call by subscriber) now it takes 3 weeks to get a phone that already has 'dial tone' to be programmed! One of the companies here won't even quote a date! Homes are getting 2 and 3 lines for adults, kids, and computers. The telecommunications infrastructure is in rapid acceleration! Haven't you noticed all of the new area, and local codes? We are running out of numbers! Maybe we'll have to go to 11 digits for long distance! This is only part of it. I won't bore you with the other problems being faced. Telecomunications is far more than 'dial tone'! I have spent 30 years in telecommunications, and IMHO, you haven't a CLUE on this one!
