Ban threads on Penny Stocks! - Then shut SI down

Re: suggestion of eliminating penny stock threads ((just using your last message as a launch, Bill))-{ apparently YAHOO did because they don't want to "spend the time and effort to police them" (Reply # 1917 - CatLady)] - well, I only subscribe to SI to see what people are saying about penny stocks - they're the stocks my brokers don't have time to watch closely.

As to monitoring what's said on these threads - I take everything I read with more than one grain of salt, though as a journalist I can understand the legal responsibilities of sites, such as SI, must be pondering, especially after the Philips (Cdn) court decision. I understand print and broadcast laws of libel - and suspect that internet 'chat forums' may be covered within the 'slander' clause (ordinary conversation) - wish SI would publish some definite guidelines - although we are supposedly breaking ground on the internet on 'freedom of speech' and transfer of information, I suspect that a lot of people don't understand that making allegations against a company or company director, etc. is not the same as telling the mother-in-law to f@#* off.

Though, most of what I read on 'chat' threads has nothing to do with info on companies, their performance, their potential - it more like a battle of web-personalities!
