ZX, Grossing up the "free" books sold? Well that is an interesting possibility, although I think the auditors would object, due to the size of the "discount" and the fact that it would be misleading, if the amount is material.

One GAAP example of grossing up revenue and then deducting a big discount occurs in hospitals. They have a posted price for services but seldom collect full price from payors due to discount agreements. However, they report gross revenue, then discounts and arrive at net revenue so you can see what is happening. AMZN burying the discount in marketing expense should be quite a different matter, if it is material.

BTW, I checked out the web site and they would only offer me some dumb money book for the penny deal - just one book, not three like some others reported. Wonder if my not allowing them to set cookies on my machine had anything to do with this.

Regards, DWW
