DownSouth, Re: "Intel Corp. (INTC) said Wednesday it is ahead of schedule on developing two new chips, code-named Cascades and Coppermine, that are due out in 1999."
Not only that but the San Jose Mercury News this morning had a short article saying that Intel would introduce two new Celeron chips, at 300 and 333 MHz, with on board L2 cache, in AUGUST. Said they would be ready for boxmakers to build them into PCs for the back to school and holiday seasons. Paul, you've been calling this earlier introduction of Mendocino for a while. Excellent sleuth work, as always.

Faster Celerons to be unveiled
Intel Corp. said it will introduce faster versions of its low-cost Celeron microprocessor in August, several months earlier than expected. Intel said advances in its manufacturing helped accelerate introduction of the 300-megahertz and 333-megahertz versions of the processor, which also will come with a cache memory module to speed performance. Critics have suggested in recent months that Celeron -- Intel's offering for the sub $1,000 PC market -- is an underperformer, in part because of the lack of the memory module. The earlier introduction will help Intel get faster Celerons into computers in time for the back-to-school and holiday sales seasons. ======================================================================
