STORY/NEWS:
In a hidden Associated Press story yesterday ToyMax
president Steven Lebensfeld stated that ToyMax will partner
with Disney to make a Creepy Crawlers set to go along with
the much-anticipated ''A Bug's Life'' movie due out this fall.
Creepy Crawlers are a 1960s favorite that allow children to
make their own colorful rubber bugs which could prove to be
high on Christmas shopping lists. On July 16, Toymax was
highlights in a Wall Street Journal article on the popularity of
Laser Tag. Sales of home models topped $100 million last
year, up from $30 million in 1996. Toymax, the home-market
leader, sold about $78.1 million in Laser Challenge sets during
the fiscal year that ended March 31, up from $26.6 million a
year earlier. On July 7th Toymax announced that it had signed
an exclusive agreement to distribute a line of licensed products
based on the popular singing group, The Spice Girls. The Spice
Girls have experienced a dramatic rise to stardom and are best
known for their mega-hit albums, "Spice" and "Spiceworld",
which have sold a combined 34 million copies. Love em or
hate em, "Spicestuff" may be the hottest thing going with
young girls this Christmas. ToyMax is also entering the
electronics market with its new Nintendo Mini-Classics, due in
stores in August. The handheld video games based on
favorites from years' past, like Donkey Kong and Super Mario
Brothers. With a line up like this TOYMAX INTL INC could
be "the" toy company to look at for Christmas season 1998.
