Mark & Philip: I did an analysis of both the Core and Select Equity funds from 5/96 - 11/96 when I was trying to decide into which one I would move my Growth and Large Cap holdings. I have to agree that they move in tandem, the difference being that Select is more volatile. It tends to move up a little more when the markets rising, and drops more significantly when its falling. This was a good period to measure them, as we had the big drop in July and then the recovery since. Mutual Funds magazine selected Core Growth as one of its "Hot Funds" in the Aug. or Sept. issue, but also said it was one of the safeest of the Hot Ones that they reported on.

Tech & Comm moves on its own, usually up. It's the most unlike the other PBHG funds, except for maybe the Large Cap and, obviously, the International. It also seems most stubborn to market decreases. I love this fund. Right now I'm 40% Limited, 20% Tech & Comm, 20% Large Cap 20, and 20% Core Growth.

With money about to come back into the small caps, watch out for the Limited.

Marc
