Excellent article on why Intel will not win the 3-D wars at:

In short - Intel is not and will not be able to really compete or outperform the competition in the 3D field - not even against S3 or Matrox, let alone TDFX. Intel is going to be an also ran at best, and will probably content itself with the very bottom end (low cost, low performance) of the market.
