yep - it's a bummer.
Anti-virus protected should scan before this weekend. Anti-virus unprotected should leave computer off this weekend to be safe, then get a fix.
Viruses have become very serios, since the engines used to create them are very sophisticated, using "cloaking", encryption, and dynamic mapping to remain undetected. Isn't it a sad testament to the state of things, that there are actually virus "engines" that make it easy for little hacks to get up and running?
I think a free program is available at www.drsolomon.com to disinfect this virus (you may have to look for a bit, but I thought I rememeber a link for the CIH cure right on the home page).
Little hacks go home ... buy and play lots of THQI games, like little boys and girls!
Then again, you can take a different approach and be proactive, like a few people have been known to do. It's not appropriate to say much, other than you can "do unto others, as others would try to do unto you". I have no consideration for a person (if that's an accurate description) who purposely harms someone else's computer, especially since most of us are pretty good at screwing up our computers, all by ourselves :o)

P.S. Just spoke with Dr. Solomon's technical support after writing this post, DO make the effort to scan and disinfect for this virus, it is a nasty one, and the damage is permanent (down to potential ruin of motherboard, or complete junking of laptops). |
