DS,
While the satellite communications are feasible on paper, IMHO, when the reality is upon us, I think that the medium, especially in the beginning, will be quite expensive when compared to the ISP we are using today. While the 'bandwidth' will be wider, the number of users will continue to increase. Even with the use of high speed packet switching, I don't think in the end that there will be enough 'channels' for all of the data that requests access, and the satellite system will slow considerably. When I first went online with you DirecPC dish, I could get the 400K download speeds that were advertised. In a very short period of time, that speed dropped to 200K for what ever reason, I suspect activity and the ability to service all of the requests. It remains to be seen how this satellite system will 'play' out, but I won't be the first in my block to have one. I have since 'turned' off the dish activity. I am considering trying it again as I already have invested $900 plus. You can get it now for far less!
