I was going to ask Smart Investor the same question, but you beat me to the punch. There is one side effect to his decision, though--his broker will make money!

PS. Smart Investor could have given his broker money and protected his AMD gains by "shorting against the box", as was suggested to me earlier for pushing capital gains taxes to next year! As I understand it, being short and long the same number of shares sort of freezes the value of your invetment until you're ready to play again. Of course, you tie-up some cash...no free lunch in investing either.
