PricewaterhouseCoopers and 3Com Open Entertainment and Media
Demonstration Center - 04:46 p.m Jul 23, 1998 Eastern

SANTA CLARA, Calif., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- PricewaterhouseCoopers
and 3Com Corporation (Nasdaq: COMS) today opened the
PricewaterhouseCoopers/3Com Entertainment and Media Demo Center at the
3Com Multimedia Lab in Santa Clara, California, showcasing digital
technology solutions to help entertainment and media companies better
manage their content. Senior executives from the two companies hosted
press and customer events at the Demo Center, highlighted by a joint
digital asset management demonstration linking the Santa Clara site
with a test lab in Los Angeles.

The Demo Center allows PricewaterhouseCoopers and 3Com to develop and
test local area and long-distance network solutions for the collaboration,
distribution and management of high-bandwidth entertainment and media
content. It showcases digital asset management solutions applied to
common entertainment business processes such as rights management,
secure use and reuse of intellectual property and development of
worldwide marketing materials, among others.

"The PricewaterhouseCoopers/3Com Entertainment and Media Demo
Center provides a very innovative -- but also a very logical and
practical -- extension of the many networked multimedia applications
already in use at the 3Com Multimedia Lab," said Eric Benhamou,
chairman and CEO of 3Com. "This is an exciting day for 3Com, as our
relationship with PricewaterhouseCoopers solidifies our position at
the cutting edge of the voice, data and video convergence that is so
profoundly impacting entertainment and media content providers."

"PricewaterhouseCoopers has been a leader in developing digital asset
management solutions focused on the entertainment and media industry
for the past several years," said Steven Abraham, global leader of
PricewaterhouseCoopers' entertainment and media consulting practice.
"One purpose of the Demo Center is to help us refine those solutions
and focus them on the specific needs of our entertainment and media
industry clients."

The digital asset management demonstration provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers
and 3Com executives today included a full array of applications related
to production and management of content for a major motion picture
advertising campaign. Among the demonstrated benefits of the digital
asset management system were the ability to: view digital assets
seamlessly online from a number of locations instead of by phone,
fax and messenger; collaborate and gain approvals online; provide
security clearances, watermarking and fingerprinting; and distribute
assets to various locations globally for modification and use.

PricewaterhouseCoopers and 3Com recently announced their "convergence
collaboration," with an initial focus on the Demo Center, providing
the two companies with the opportunity to explore new territory in the
digital asset management arena and to bring real E-business solutions
to bear on the merging worlds of content, communications and technology.
Today's Demo Center opening builds on this momentum, offering companies
working with large amounts of media content an opportunity to benefit
from the latest in digital asset management business solutions.

Prime candidates for such an offering include the major entertainment
companies, broadcast and cable networks, print media companies and the
new emerging Web entertainment and information companies.

Initially the PricewaterhouseCoopers/3Com Entertainment and Media Demo
Center in Santa Clara will be connected to a digital asset management
test lab in Los Angeles. In the coming months, PricewaterhouseCoopers
and 3Com will create additional links to test labs in major markets on
the East coast and in Europe. The focus and capabilities of the Demo
Center will also be expanded to include digital content distribution
through set-top boxes and other direct-to-consumer devices.

PricewaterhouseCoopers has a rich and extensive history of providing
business consulting expertise to leading entertainment companies and
is at the forefront of testing, developing and implementing digital
asset management solutions for entertainment and media business issues.
3Com develops networking hardware and software solutions which are
required to support the effective communication and distribution of
high-bandwidth data. Both organizations have taken leadership roles in
offering state-of-the-art business solutions to companies in the
converging content, communications and technology industries.

PricewaterhouseCoopers and 3Com executives are available by appointment
to provide customized digital asset management presentations and
demonstrations at the Demo Center. Company executives interested in
scheduling an appointment should contact either Yvette Herrera of
PricewaterhouseCoopers at 310-201-1868 or John Marshall of 3Com at
