Geoff and Scott,

Buying index put LEAPS is a strategy that I've also been discussing with one of my friends. We were very confused about the S&P Leaps (SPX) until we found out that they are European-style options...which we think means they can only be exercised on the expiration date. For this reason, even if they soon go in the money, the price may be less than the difference between the current stock price and the strike price.
As I understand it,
Ken
