Tsyl, I'll disagree about Michael Dell needing to react to this.

Dell doesn't need to be reactionary as a company. They have a plan and need to execute that plan.

Dell does need to respond when misinformation is out about the company or the companies performance. It reduces his credibility if he were to react to every piece of news.

IDC/Dataquest data will be out soon and the company performance will speak for itself.

As for a split, Dell should NOT announce a split when another company drops the ball. Dell has determined the optimum timing of a split and will implement the split at that time.

As for 3/1 being authorized as in an earlier post-not true. Dell shareholders have authorized an increase in shares from 1 to 3 billion. This only means the shareholders have removed an obstruction and the board is now cleared to execute a split when they feel the timing can get the best performance.

My opinion, Dell will announce a 2/1 split on August 18th.
