Chuzzlewit, the only problem with your market cap theory is that stock prices are set on the margin. The loss of market cap is irrelevant to the catalyst that set the momentum in motion. The fact that the "arbitrage premium" narrowed steadily throughout the session indicates to me that this in fact was the driving factor behind the stock's decline yesterday. Was it the only trading? No, of course not. There were plenty of opportunistic daytraders piling on and helping confirm the direction. I'm sure there were long term holders selling, buying, and as many reasons for trading as any day.
