And the Senate uses C-Cube....
C-SPAN2 to be Added to PRIMESTAR's Channel Lineup
New Public Service Channel Will Further Expand PRIMESTAR's Variety of Programming Options
BALA CYNWYD, Pa., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- PRIMESTAR, one of the nation's leading providers of digital satellite television, announced today it will add C-SPAN2 to its lineup after it launches its successor satellite early next year. C-SPAN2 will join existing C-SPAN in the PrimeValue programming package.
This new addition, along with more than 50 new channels that will be available on PRIMESTAR when the service transitions to the new GE-2 satellite in early 1997, will give PRIMESTAR a complete array of news, information and entertainment channels. PRIMESTAR has already announced that it will also add CNN/SI, BET, The TV Food Network, Court TV, The History Channel, VH1, Outdoor Life, Speedvision, Showtime, Showtime 2 and Sundance Channel when the new satellite is launched.
"Public service programming is a must-have in today's information oriented world," said Denny Wilkinson, senior vice president of marketing and programming at PRIMESTAR. "C-SPAN2 provides unique coverage that keeps Americans abreast of government processes and is a welcome addition to our expanding lineup."
C-SPAN2
C-SPAN2 provides live uninterrupted coverage of the U.S. Senate when it is in session. With both C-SPAN and C-SPAN2 available on PRIMESTAR, viewers can track important legislation as it travels through both bodies of Congress.
When the Senate is not in session, the network offers a balanced variety of public affairs programming, including congressional committee hearings, press briefings, university and political party forums, newsmaker speeches, and coverage of international legislatures -- all without editing or commentary.
A C-SPAN2 exclusive is a new five-hour weekend programming block "About Books" devoted to the world of books. Each Saturday and Sunday night, this enlightening exploration into the world of writing and publishing presents book signings, readings by authors and entertainers, and tours of bookstores around the country.
"With both C-SPAN and C-SPAN2 now available on the PRIMESTAR lineup, millions of Americans beyond the reach of cable television will have access to the workings of Washington," said Brian Lamb, C-SPAN Chairman & CEO. "And with `About Books,' our new 5-hour weekend program block, PRIMESTAR customers will also hear from the authors whose ideas influence debate on Capitol Hill."
