Hyundai Electronics Cuts DRAM Output in June, July
July 24, 1998 (TOKYO) -- Hyundai Electronics Industries Co., Ltd. shut down all DRAM microchip production lines at its Ichon plant in Korea, its stronghold of DRAM production, for eight days.
It did so to adjust a worldwide glut of DRAM microchips in the semiconductor market, Nikkei Microdevices confirmed. The shut-down will continue for eight days from July 16-25.

The company also curtailed production at Ichon for one week in June.

In addition, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Korea also stopped operations of memory-microchip production lines at its main plants for one week from July 19-25.

Hyundai will keep reducing production on the same scale, along with Samsung Electronics, until the DRAM market recovers, company officials said.

LG Semicon Co., Ltd. officials said the company will not curtail production on a large scale for the time being, because it has a small inventory.
