I always dreamed that one day I would see my son on TV playing baseball...I just didn't expect to see it happen so soon.
My fifteen minutes, er, fifteen seconds of fame happened last night. I coached our town's "eight year-olds allstar team", and we won our tournament Wednesday evening, going 6-0. The kids went bananas. Traditionally, like the Cubs, our town never wins anything. One of the dads taped the game. He also works for Channel Two News (CBS affiliate in Chicago) and he got a real nice segment about the game on the 5:00 news. It went something like, "Tired of hearing about the Sox and the Bulls? Well here's some players that play for fun..." and it started with my son getting a nice hit up the middle right over my head (it's a "dad's pitch" league). Then they showed another player get a hit and two runs scored, then me handing the trophies to each player, and a funny interview with our third baseman..."We practiced as a team, we played as a team, so we won as a team." He's already got the cliches down pat-ggg. What a big thrill for the kids!(and parents-ggg)
