Ga Bard:

I think what you have is the very similar to what celebrities go through. The internet and these chat/disscussion threads allow for common people like us to utilize our free speech and broadcast our views, facts, and opinions nationally (and internationally for that matter). Along with the right of free speech comes a responsibility ranging from not yelling fire in a crowded theater to not making libelous claims against another entity. We also have to understand that for each person that believes like us on an issue there is probably one person who does not care and one that disagrees. Those other two people have a right to free speech and to voice their opinions also. I have noticed more than once that when people "naysay"; their character is definitely assinated until they quiet down. Character assination happens on all planes and by voicing your opinion publically, you set yourself up to be "flamed".
With that in mind please understand there are a lot of normal people making recomendations based off of their DD, there a lot of unscrupulous people making recommendations to swindle, and finally there are a lot of paid promoters making recommendations for compensation. Me being one of the normal people (my opinion only)..I tend to be cynical of everyone else...(especially now). The lynch mob mentality (which you refered to)occurs in the absence of law..which there seems to be little or no regulation on the net. It is an atmosphere that is generated by people being stung by poor information and by scams. Binder is right, the net is a cesspool of info and it requires a lot of digging to find one decent post by someone else. But while everyone states do your own DD...they publish theirs with the idea that they are not responsible for the accuracy since they are not professional...the funny thing is the public has a tendacy to assign blame (hence responsibility) to those who provide poor or bad info. Time and memory are the enemy of unscrupulous people. Hope it wasn't too confusing.
