Here's my case for SCO. When the market cleans house pretty soon, a lot of companies with paper profits like IBM and Compaq are going to suffer, while companies that are market efficient like DELL will be fairly valued a little higher than where they are now. SUNW is tearing away customers from IBM, HWP, and DEC in very large chunks thinking they are the only true UNIX play. But an interesting development is the Avalon Los Alomos $150,000 900 Alpha Processor 64 Mb RAM 2 gig scsi hd all connected by 3COM switches computer rated in the top 100 fastest computers in the world which ran on linux. If Compaq buys SCOC as the superior x86 play and promises the world's best support and also buys Novell and builds some $250,000 supercomputers using their switches. I think the immediate casualties would be sun and ibm. Soon, fear will strike in Microsoft. Better yet, the only weakness in this scenario is Intel. Does Compaq standardize on the alpha or continue to subsidize AMD. The solution is that the best processor will be the G4 with over 4megabytes LEVEL ONE cache. MOT and IBM will be huge winners. 3COM will be bought out for a big time price. TXN to follow.Where does that leave AAPL? As the purchaser of SCOC.
