France's Alstom Reports 34% Pickup In Quarterly Sales

Dow Jones Online News, Friday, July 24, 1998 at 13:09

PARIS -(Dow Jones)- Alstom SA (ALS) reported Friday that its sales
rose to 21.6 billion french francs ($3.6 billion) in the first quarter
of fiscal year 1999 compared with 16.1 billion francs a year earlier,
due mainly to the integration of newly acquired Cegelec into the
Franco-British engineering-to-transport group.
Alstom (ALS) said its orders rose to 26.2 billion francs in the
quarter from 16 billion francs a year earlier.
The group said the sharp rise in orders was mainly the product of the
Cegelec acquisition and a pick-up in orders in the U.K. "reflecting a
strong demand for infrastructure upgrading in this country."
