There's usually an explanation for everything (except in the case of THQ). Here's your answer on SEEK:

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Shares of Infoseek fell Friday morning. The Internet search-engine company reported a narrower-than-expected second-quarter loss on substantially higher revenue vs. the year-ago period.

Infoseek's page views, however, declined at the end of the second quarter, compared with the previous quarter.

Microsoft (MSFT) rose 1/2 to 113 1/2 after the company told analysts it will introduce a new Internet portal called MSN.com in September.

Goldman Sachs analyst Michael Parekh said, "We believe that Microsoft has the Internet resources to put together a leading global portal site, along with AOL, Yahoo! and Netscape."

Search engine companies retreated on news of Microsoft's foray into the market. Yahoo! (YHOO) fell 10 3/8 to 179, Excite (XCIT) lost 4 1/8 to 42 3/8 and Lycos (LCOS) fell 6 3/4 to 66 1/2.

Internet search engine company Infoseek (SEEK) lost 3 1/2 to 27 7/8 amid concerns about declining traffic as a result of lower exposure on Netscape's website.
