Thought these figures were interesting
The numbers are astounding (CEMA, please note). From their most recent nadir in '95 at $3 billion in total sales
(hardware and software), rocking Sony, booming Nintendo and pathetic Sega sold $5.5 billion worth of stuff last
year, a 47 percent increase over 1996. And how about this one? Toys 'R Us sold $1 billion worth of video game
equipment between October 1 and Dececember 31, 1997 -- just a single retailer, albeit a huge one. Main projected
the number would hit $6.2 billion this year including 13.5 million consoles (95 percent Sony/Nintendo) and 81.5
million games. By the time this generation of games runs its course, a total of 45 million consoles will have been
bought along with 350 million games. Main expects the "next, next generation" of consoles to arrive in 2000.
