This table is one of my favorites - because I am a masochist at
heart.:) As I mentioned about a week ago, Bill O'Neil, publisher of
IBD listed in his first article of a series in IBD that the first
rule of investing is protecting your capital. When you buy a stock,
always set a stop position. If the stock doesn't go up, but goes
down, you get stopped out and live to fight another day. I didn't
do that when I had the opportunity. Now I am stuck with several
stocks that will go up someday, but if I had stopped out, and then
bought now, I would have twice as much stock for the same amount of
money. Then when the rise comes, as it most certainly will, I would
have been in pretty good shape. Now I need a 100 percent gain or
better just to get even - let alone make any money. The last
several months has been a painful lesson for me. It is probably not
over yet either! The bad earnings news is just beginning to roll in.
