Jim: I've looked at returns of brokerages vs mutual funds over many years history- it seems that a collection of blue-chip brokerage stocks handily outperforms the best mutual funds in a bull market, with very low risk. they have the advantage of being easier to trade and you can put stop-losses on them. MER is in the 100 so is probably the one to watch for bearishness.
