The ideas presented by both you and Croc (BTW, still meaning to leave a "thank you" at the thread where we first met) are quite good and fit the "live and let live" ideal very well. However, putting extra expense into landscaping options such as the ones which you suggested for the cats doesn't quite fit the long term landscaping game plan. My funds are limited, so having to think of creative and yet non-harmful ways of dealing with annoyances is, well, a nuisance. I can't help but wonder if a couple two or three squirrel tails hanging about might also send the desired message and still allow for budget constraints. Like I've said, not much for the taking of any life (guess I wouldn't make it as a farmer and or rancher), but those little buggers have me "fit to be tied".
I live in a heavily wooded area with open patches so I'm not quite sure to what extent trapping would do much good for us. When territory is vacated, doesn't it make sense that others of the same species will quickly move in. There not as thick as ticks, but there are plenty of them.
Also, as I've gardened over the years, I'm beginning to wonder if utilizing farmer's markets during the summer wouldn't be cheaper in the long run. After one figures all of the expenses associated with raising a garden, does it really make sense to continue with it? Besides the hobby aspect of it, the only other upside I can see is that one knows exactly what the plants have been subjected to during their growing life (i.e. chemicals).
Well, if ya all will excuse me, I'll be back tomorrow if need be.
Sleep well. |
