DavidG: prices have been stable for 5-6 weeks- what evidence is there of any rise? BUT prices were plummeting up to then and for most DRAM components are 50% or less of those on Jan 1. Some components, like the 16mb, dropped almost a third in June alone.
(1) at these prices MU loses lots of money every day
(2) demand is falling further behind supply as 64mb ramps up and laser repair is deployed
(3) the "PC on a chip", the basis of the consumer PC of 1999+, will not use any component DRAM
(4) there is no particular reason why the DRAM market will ever turn around. For example, demand for DRAM may well be flat in the next couple of years, due to (3), while supply continues to rise
