I share this forum's good wishes for Ampex and I hope their new storage product sells in high quantity soon.
However, being a Colorado Springs resident over the past twenty years, having lived within twenty minutes from the Ampex plant there, having known several people who worked there in good and bad times, I have seen first-hand how Ampex has declined from a company that had the support of Allied Signal, with several excellent video engineering products, employing over two thousand people in a very busy three-shift manufacturing operation with a legion of engineers, to a very small outfit with no support from a large parent organization, few profitable products, a tiny engineering staff, and a downsized manufacturing plant that employs a skeleton crew.
Perhaps the long slide has finished and a pheonix-like recovery is underway. I certainly hope so, not just for speculative investors, but for the people in Colorado Springs who have lost so much over the past ten year Ampex collapse.... Regards, Trenton. |
