Ny point is;

1) The various Unix OSs are more expensive than MSFT's

2) Even if you consider Win 98 a patch (which of course it is not), once you make an apples to apples comparison to Unix patches (as part of the whole package) it is more than a bargain.

3) Unsupported software is not for the casual home user (they can't dig and find a workaround), which is the target market for Win 98. Thus any comparison to downloadable, unsupported patches and Win 98 are illogical.

<I still don't see your point. This all started in response to an assertion that patches for Unix (and particularly Solaris) weren't available without paying a monthly fee. That's not the case.<

Can you say the same for supported patches. 99% of Microsoft's softwaer is supported by the company in some form or fashion. Are you comparing Unix to 1% of MSFT's portfolio of products?
