I guess the big question is....
1. Win 98 with two PCI cards
or
2. Win NT with a Appian Duet or colorgraphix car?

You forgot the choice of NT with two Viper PCI cards.........

Certainly the cheapest route would be Win 98 with two cards (not Vipers) because you can get very inexpensive cards that are on Microsoft's list. (Note that they don't both have to be PCI cards. You CAN mix an AGP and PCI card.) I'm talking about 2-$50 cards. That's far less than the cost of a multi-monitor card.

But, if you have a choice, and you have the additional slot available, I think you should go with NT and two Vipers ( or perhaps other cards that support dual cards in NT). NT is so much more stable than 95/98, in addition to offering a far superior security system, should that be a need of yours. And, since 98 is the last stop for that operating system, you will already be positioned to move forward with NT's progression path, which Microsoft has announced will be their path.

There are far too many benfits to NT than can be mentioned here, but IMHO, if you can take a little time to re-learn some things, NT is really the only choice. (At least between the two MS platforms. But that's another story for another time.)

Good luck.
