This has not been a good day for me on SI . . . .
(1) To the other David: You have every right to the name, of course, and I prefer SI's system to Yahoo's, for instance, where the name "David", for some reason, was already taken by the time I showed up there. (I was once in a class in eighth grade, by the way, where there were seven Davids. A personal record. I have been on conference calls where all four of us were named David.) However, this is definitely going to lead to confusion on this thread unless we find some way to sort it out. Now Buck is confused, and considering the recent news about cloning, I guess I can't blame him.
(2) And now Keith Fauci, a founding father of discussion on this thread, has returned to try to start a political debate. Given the potential for the thread unraveling over irrelevancies like personal politics, I have tried to stay away from that topic, and will not respond on this subject. However, as gun checks relate to IDX business, we should understand what we are talking about. Fingerprint checks have never been suggested for the purpose of creating some kind of "National Registry" of gun owners; instead, it would be more like the INS naturalization system, where an applicant is cleared as not being on file with the existing FBI data base as a dangerous criminal, for instance. Bio-ID checks are meaningless in terms of gun safety legislation.
