I am disappointed but nor surprised that a serious piece that I enjoy would somehow fall below
the threshhold of actual MUSIC in your judgment!! ;^)


HEY! No fair!!! It wasn't in my judgment that this isn't music but in Ravel's (the creator) himself. Heck, I like Bolero. It's lots of fun! I grew up on it, too, and there's no debate that it's very, very popular. But Ravel himself (the creator)had this to say about his own work....

I am particularly desirous that there should be no misunderstanding about this work. It is an experiment in a very special and limited direction...consisting wholly of orchestral tissue without music--no contrasts and practically no invention except in the plan and manner of execution. "Bolero" is 17 minutes of orchestra without any music.

So please don't accuse me of musical snobbery! I like Dolly Parton, John Tesh, and my own compositions; discriminating I'm not.
