Wow, Penni!! I know nothing of Ravel the composer, and had no idea that he himself had this opinion of Bolero. But what exactly is "orchestral tissue?" I bet you can't buy that by the case at Sam's or Costco, which leaves me, you and Del out for sure. And exactly what definition of the word "music" is Ravel using?

I was not exactly accusing you of musical snobbery. Did you not notice the smiley face in my post? Do you have Yanni pounding in your ears so loudly you cannot fully appreciate irony at the moment?

Okay, Saturday night is the perfect time for a CAT POEM!!! This one is a little deep, in an almost Piscean way, my fishy, very witchy friend!

The Thing About Cats

Cats hang out with witches quite a lot;
that's not it.

the thing about cats is they're always looking at you.
Especially when you're asleep.

Some cats pretend they're not looking
until you're not looking.
They are not to be trusted.

Some cats scowl because they're wearing
imitation fur. They feel inferior.

Some other cats look at you straight on
so that you can't drink your drink
or make love
but keep thinking
that cat's looking at me straight on.

But all cats do the same:
they look at you
and you look out
and in.

A cat is not a conscience; I'm not saying that.

What I'm saying is
why are they looking?
