Grant, your statement seems to include the assumption that the "higher" animals live on land. I am not sure that is true. Look at the intelligence of the dolphins, for example, and their sensitivity. They are the only animals I can think of who have, in effect, joined the U.S. Navy, to do underwater surveillance. I think this is unethical, incidentally, because they have no choice and are required to participate in missions which may hurt or kill animals or people.

Why do we think we are superior to other life, anyway? Dominance implies brute force, but that is about all.
