Microsoft will be hurt when people who took the free SQL Server software and training try to scale up their applications and fail.

I have it from a good source (a contractor working in the project) that this is exactly what happened at Egghead - A sql server rollout gone bad. According to my pal there, Egghead's currently migrating an auction site from sql server to Oracle8 after discovering (surprise, surprise) that sql server would not scale adequately. I was also told Microsoft sent Paul Allen armed with $500K worth of free consulting to try to rescue the deal, but came up empty. If true, this is a great example of Microsoft struggling even to pay people use their stuff. Can anyone confirm this?
