I am "shorting" by selling naked calls. My broker calls it shorting so that's what I'll use. I agree that very few shares are available to short. The dynamics are much the same. Maybe that makes Amazon.com less attractive as a short as you can figure that some of the shorts will cover if it moves down which will buffer the price movement a bit. But the short interest has gone down and many shorts expect the stock to trade much lower over the next several months and are, therefore, willing to hold their positions if necessary.
