IMPORTANT: 'GLOBAL Y2K ACTION DAY - August 19, 1998
(T-Minus 500 Days & Counting)

days hrs mins secs

Y2K Days
On August 19, 1998, there will be only 500 days until January 1, 2000. The
Year 2000 Problem (Y2K) is approaching at the rate of 3,600 seconds per
hour! We are making progress, but not as fast as the Year 2000 is
approaching. On August 19, 1998, Dr. Ed Yardeni will host an Internet
COUNTDOWN 2000 CONFERENCE all day long. Click here for
conference details. We are planning additional conferences at T-minus 400,
300, 200, and 100 days.
Action
Agenda
Now is our chance to make a difference. Here is what we need to do:

We need to increase global awareness of the problem.
We need to do everything possible to fix the problem while there is
still time.
We need to assess the likelihood of system malfunctions and
failures, and significant disruptions to our businesses, governments,
and lives.
We need to prepare contingency and disaster recovery plans.
We must promote a community approach to this problem.
Can do!
Here is what we can do:

E-mail or write letters to the press now. Alert them that August 19,
1998 is Global Y2K Action Day. Encourage them to investigate
local, national, and global Y2K issues. You can e-mail a copy of
your generic letters to the press to yardeni@ix.netcom.com. We will
select the best ones and post them for others to use.
Join together in community action groups to assess vital local
systems, especially electric power, heating oil and gas distribution,
water supply, sanitation, and telephone service.
Work with local authorities on contingency and disaster recovery
plans in the event of major disruptions in the systems listed above.
Alarm,
Not Panic!
An informed public may be alarmed by the problem, but with 500 days
remaining we can take measures to minimize counter-productive panic
reactions. Y2K is a community problem. Indeed, it is likely to have a deep
impact on the entire global community. The best way to put it behind us and
to prosper once again is by working together.
