Blockbuster news and the purest current way to play it is ATHM. The global level endorsement of IP and the long range implications of suppliers of IP support through services, equipment, and mostly software, make this joint venture an extremely bullish development. It was only a matter of time and internet maturity before the giants would implement an effort to realize the economy of scale available. The scale can't even be approached without fiber optic cable, SONET, ATM, IP, and the many company build-out of the net, since one of the venture's objectives is to provide optional seamless interconnection between all the private and public nets. I guess we should call this the advent of the GAN, Global Area Network. We might watch the industry and see what ancillary companies develop sudden bursts of trading activity tomorrow.
