I beg to differ. If one bought MSFT and held it (assuming you bought and held as a result of research and not following a trend), you performed FA. The problem with FA is that most lay people (and many professionals) do not understand the accounting and economic aspects of the analysis. Therefore misinterpretations of the data occur and wrong moves are made. A good example of FA for Microsoft (which was actually just the result of reading the footnotes and understanding them) can be found at rcmfinancial.com
