I was unaware of this development. It should help make the drug much more usable replacing an expensive laser system with some comparatively cheap LEDs.

The clincher on whose drug came from QLT's registered trademark rather than just the generic drug name being used in the story...

Dr. Whelan's technique to remove these tumors involves injecting the patient's bloodstream with a drug called Photofrin II. Photofrin II attaches to the unwanted tissues and permeates into them, leaving the surrounding tissues unaffected.

I probably could have done without the picture of a probe being stuck into some one's brain. <yech!>
