Portal? What's a Portal? Dina Bass Wrong. Not every portal deserves its high stock price. Analyst Henry Blodget of CIBC Oppenheimer believes that putting a portal in your portfolio is a good way to bet on the long-term growth of the Internet. But trying to pick out individual winners is tougher. Like many analysts, Blodget believes there's little need for six or seven Web gateways. That means partnerless portals like Lycos, Excite, and Netscape risk getting squeezed out. "If one of them partners with a Time Warner, suddenly the others are out in the cold.
