Wall Street Journal Interactive is reporting this morning that IBM and Applied Language Technologies have formed a "partnership" to provide speech applications for businesses which allow people to talk to computers via their telephones, like airlines, brokerages, etc.:

The interesting part of the article (besides mentioning that LHSPF/MSFT and Dragon are competitors) is the calculation that this particular sector of the market by itself accounted for $408 million in revenues in 1997, and will grow to $2 billion by 2000. Are we in a growth industry or what!
